Sharing is cool. It makes people happy. You know what else is cool? GIFs!— the fun, animated images that’ve been making people’s screens happy since 1987. GIFs have since been one of the fastest ways for mirth (and memes) to be shared.

MSLK wanted to join in on the fun. So we created a fun series of beauty-themed GIFs meant to be shared by all on their social media networks. Now that Facebook and Twitter allow animated GIFs in their news feeds, you can  be the most interesting person on social media.

Check out where we’ll uploading a new GIF every day through December 25th. When sharing, please be sure to use the hashtag #gifgiving.

Sheri L Koetting Speaker WebsiteHave a look at MSLK’s recently launched site for our very own Sheri L Koetting. The site was designed with the sole purpose of highlighting Sheri’s speaking engagements and writing, and is geared towards programming directors of conferences, and symposia. Much like Sheri herself, the site is fun, dynamic, and colorful. Please visit the new site on your desktop, as well as mobile devices:

mslk-Choose-Better-Products-5For anyone who has followed our eco-art installations over the years, you know that public health and environmental awareness has been a big concern for MSLK. This past summer, we created “Choose Better Projects” a project designed to raise awareness about a seemingly benign substance, triclosan, which is used in a variety of household products. Triclosan (or its chemically-similar cousin Triclocarban) is marketed as an anti-bacterial agent, and is the main active ingredient in all antibacterial soap. The effectiveness of Triclosan to actually kill harmful bacteria has been called into question. No one is sure if it’s even as effective as washing your hands with regular soap. Far worse than the possibility that this may not even perform as it was intended, very strong evidence suggests that it can cause direct harm to humans, and indirect harm to the environment.

This week the FDA announced that it is proposing a new rule to force manufacturers to prove that their products are safe as well as effective. This is a huge step that we fully applaud! The risks far outweigh to benefits to ignore a healthy debate. For more information, you can read here:

We’ve been working on a 360° rebranding project for Prucheek, a line of cheeky greeting cards for people of color. Prucheek came to MSLK with great ideas and potential, but their products had not been well-executed. We went into the project with two goals:

1. Breathe new life into the brand and give it the distinctive voice it deserves.

2. Increase the quality of the design and production to a competitive level.

This is one of those truly great before and after stories. Since designing the first set of cards, we’ve gone on to create a responsive e-commerce site, sales catalog, and trade ads. We’re currently working on a trade-booth design for the National Stationery Show in May. Read more to see project imagery and gain deeper insight into our process. Read more

The AIGA is the oldest and largest professional organization for design whose design competitions have always been well-regarded. Recently, they needed to reclaim their relevancy amongst a slew of newer competitions, diluting the AIGA’s efforts. In an effort to emphasize design thinking and strategy, they sought to merge all of their design competitions into one, which would recognize visual design solutions as well as written case studies. Our directive was to position this recognition with the gravitas that it truly deserved.
