Behind the Scenes at Lincoln Center
Back in 2002, the hottest architects in NYC, Diller Scofidio + Renfro won the competition for a massive renovation of the Juilliard School and Alice Tully Hall, at Lincoln Center. For those of you not familiar with DSR’s work they are the team behind the “Blur Building” at the Swiss National Expo in 2002 and are also the team currently working on the development of the High Line.
MSLK is not only huge fans of DSR’s work, but when we need architectural assistance (especially on our studio renovation) we turn to our friend Ben Mickus, who is an architect at DSR. Ben has been working on the Lincoln Center for the past 4 years and has just shared with us a sneak peek of what’s going on behind all those construction barricades. For those of you with a technical mind, Ben’s detailed account of how each feature is being constructed is fascinating. I’m particularly in love with the glowing wood veneer to be installed in Alice Tully Hall.
