The Great Durian Challenge

The southeast Asian fruit durian has sensory descriptions which range from: “…A rich custard highly flavoured with almonds gives the best general idea of it, but there are occasional wafts of flavour that call to mind cream-cheese, onion-sauce, sherry-wine, and other incongruous dishes.” To: ” …pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away.” Of course, MSLK needed to put this to the test with: The Great Durian Challenge. Following Emil’s lead (being that he’s our resident southeast Asian and therefore exempt from the challenge), we ordered a glass of durian juice. Here was our reactions: Ellen: “Ewww.” Katie: “Not too bad.” Claudia: “No…no…..no…. I do not like this at all.” Sheri: “@#*&^#$ this!” Marc: “C’mon… this is a joke, right? Where’s Ashton Kutcher?”
