The Japanese have an expression that translates roughly into: "That person is such a loser they don't even have a firewall." A firewall is that fancy detail we see protruding from the roof here. It is so expensiive you decorate it, just to prove that you are not a loser. The little house in the foreground is a Shinto shrine and when this house actually burned in a fire the shrine remained unharmed.
