The Belgian Waffle

The Belgian Waffle

The most photographed and talked about piece at Burning Man this year. Here are the facts as I know them: 1. it was 15 stories high 2. it was built by 90 Belgians over the course of 1 week 3. It was a surprise for the designer's fiancee and they got married there 4. It cost $250,000 to build 5. The installation's true name is "Uchronia" -- named after a Belgian art movement centered on a world without the concept of time. Everyone called it "the Belgian Waffle" 6. The Belgians hated the name "The Belgian Waffle" (or "The Waffle" as it was also known as). We were actually reprimanded first-hand by the architect for calling it that) 7. It was a dance club at night 8. They burned it at the end, (see photos further on)
