The Cute Factor
Scrap the idea of getting a celebrity to endorse your next campaign. Instead, consider puppies, kittens, baby pigs and butterflies. Oh, and throw in a few rainbows and roses for extra points. The newest trend to work it’s way up from the blogosphere is the use of cute animals to market and sell everything from lotto tickets to high end fashion.
It all started with blogs like Cute Overload, which posts a daily array if images of cute animals doing cute things.
It became an instant hit and was followed with more cuteness, such as the Sheba Inu 6 – a live webcam set up to follow a set of Sheba Inu puppies from birth through adoption.
Cute made its way up the food chain with the new Sweet Million campaign that can be seen all over the city. Who can resist pigs in pajamas?
Most recently, United Bamboo picked up on the trend, showcasing their collection in a calendar… on cats.
If you’re looking for a model, we have some experience working with cute talent. Don’t let her looks fool you, though, she’s quite a diva.

Lulu has taken to a more progressive: pursuit designer.
She has a way of augmenting the look of each person in the studio’s outfits by adding a distinctly white furry look to everything black.
lulu, that’s it! make love to the camera!!
has pinky had any modeling experience too??
Wrong to admit how much I love the Shiba Inu cam? So is cute the antidote to ironic or is it just the next phase of irony? So confusing.
MSLK employees truly adore the office cats despite our allergies. Too bad the feeling isn’t mutual. Kidding aside, do you think this kind of warming-consumer-hearts, take-things-with-a-sense-of-humor tactic a marketing trend cause of the recession? Who knows…although a lottery isn’t necessarily heart warming.
Good point, Jennifer! Maybe it’s just that we could all use a little cute and fluffy in our lives right about now.
While I’m not taking sides in the cat vs. dog debate, I thought I’d follow up with some of these images of the opposite species being equally cute. Here are some modeling bowties and sunglasses.
Pinky has been a cat model before too. She preformed horribly and cost us a full day of studio time. See her as the “cat” in the MSLK bookmarks here:
