While I tend to agree with Marc on everything in moderation and adopt this principle in my personal habits, I tend to disagree with him on applying this to art and design. First of all, Vermeer is one of my favorite painters. I simply cannot get enough of his detail-laden, hyper-realist work. In fact, it is people like me who stare at this painting for hours, who yearn for something more to cogitate on. The additional meaning behind each item in the composition only makes the piece more thrilling. Secondly, without extremes to go to how can we produce revolutionary work? Or create emotions like love and hate? A world of moderation would be boring.
